Awakening the Artist Within & Defining Your Practice
In this class the limitless possibilities of art-making along with fundamental drawing and painting techniques will be introduced. Throughout this eight-week session we will be exploring various aspects of creating art including; Getting Started, Brushes and Their Uses, Artwork Composition, Colour Mixing, and Drawing & Painting as a Creative and Conceptual Experience.
Participants will develop their drawing and painting skills while focusing on art exploration in representational art and abstract works. Art foundations will be discussed in detail as participants work towards developing a disciplined painting practice that engages their mind, body and spirit. *No Experience Necessary. *Includes Materials for Use.

BIO: Shauna is interested in fostering creativity and inspiring others to find their inner artist. She helps participants understand art concepts and techniques as well as introduce them to famous work to learn and help inspire new and innovative creations. Shauna helps learners to overcome inhibitions around the art they create and ensure them that they need to be confident artists.

Exploring Abstract Expressionism:
Dive into the world of abstract art and learn how to express emotions, ideas, and concepts through non-representational forms. Experiment with various techniques such as bold brushstrokes, colour blending, and texture creation to create expressive and captivating abstract compositions.

Exploring Ceramic Sculpture:
Embark on a journey of three-dimensional art with ceramic sculpture. Learn various hand-building techniques like coiling, slab construction, and sculpting to create your own unique ceramic pieces. Explore surface treatments and glazing techniques to add texture and colour to your sculptures.

Capturing Light and Shadows in Art:
Learn the art of capturing light and shadows in your artwork. Explore different lighting conditions, such as natural sunlight or artificial sources, and discover how they can dramatically transform the mood and atmosphere of your art. Study techniques like shading, highlighting, and contrast to create realistic and captivating lighting effects using a variety of media.

Nature-Inspired Watercolours:
Discover the delicate beauty of nature through watercolour painting. Learn how to capture the organic forms, vibrant colours, and intricate details of flowers, landscapes, and wildlife. Explore watercolour techniques like wet-on-wet, dry brush, and glazing to create ethereal and expressive watercolour artworks.

Session 6:

Acrylic Bliss
This course is designed for beginner or intermediate painters who are interested in reviewing the basics of handling acrylic paints and brushes as well as exploring a variety of techniques (glazing, layering, impasto, alla-prima, and others) and subject matter (landscape, self-portrait, and abstraction). This class will cover the fundamentals of composition, tone, and blending colours and will also touch upon concepts crucial to the creative process, including: critical thinking, discipline, precision, spontaneity, metaphor, symbolism, mood and intuition when it comes to painting. One-on-one assistance will be provided when necessary and discussions may complement our studio work. This class will give participants the basic tools and necessary ideas to continue on with their own personal painting practice.
