7 WEEK SESSIONS
THURSDAYS 5:30-6:45pm
Session 1: Dynamic Drawings
September 12 – October 24, 2024
Description: In this session we will focus on developing our drawing skills through engaging activities. We’ll explore line drawing to create dynamic shapes and forms, shading techniques to add depth and dimension, and perspective drawing to understand spatial relationships. We’ll also dive into the world of comic art, where students can design their own characters and stories, learning about sequential art and visual storytelling.
Session 2: Exploring Famous Artists
November 7 – December 19, 2024
Description: Each week, students will learn about a different famous artist and create art inspired by their unique styles. Projects will include recreating Van Gogh’s swirling skies in “Starry Night,” experimenting with Monet’s impressionist water lilies, exploring O’Keeffe’s bold and vibrant flowers, and creating abstract portraits in the style of Picasso. These activities will help students understand various art movements and the key techniques associated with the different artistic genres throughout history.
Session 3: Mixed-Media Mystery and Magic
January 9 – February 20th, 2025
Description: This session we will dive into the enchanting world of magic and mystery through mixed-media art. Students will create magical wands using a combination of wood, paint, and embellishments, secret potion bottles crafted with recycled glass containers, coloured inks, and glitter, and enchanted forests will come to life using watercolours, textured paper, and natural elements. These projects will encourage students to combine different media and techniques to tell fantastical stories through their art.
Session 4: Wildlife Wonders
February 27 – April 17, 2025 (No Class March Break)
Description: Students will learn about wildlife and create art inspired by animals. Projects will include designing animal masks using paper-mâché and paint, creating wildlife paintings with acrylics and watercolours to depict animals in their natural habitats, and sculpting clay animal figures, focusing on form and detail. These activities will foster an appreciation for nature and its many creatures!
Session 5: Mythology and Legends
April 24 – June 5, 2025
Description: Myths and legends from various cultures around the world will help us create art this session. We will be sculpting mini statues and creating detailed drawings of various historical characters with powerful, inspiring stories. Legendary tales will inspire projects like crafting mythical creatures with mixed media, including wire, fabric, and paint. This series will use various artistic techniques and materials to bring timeless stories to life!
