CAMP THEMES:

Week 1: Nature’s Palette: An Art Adventure – July 4th- July 7th, 2023 – Short Week

During the first week of art camp, students will explore the beauty of nature through various art forms. We’ll take nature walks to gather inspiration, and use watercolours and other media to paint what we see. We will also learn how to create nature-inspired sculptures using air-dry clay and natural materials like twigs, leaves, and stones and our week will culminate with a group exhibit and discussion of all the nature-based art pieces we create!

Week 2: Faces and Expressions: A Portrait Extravaganza – July 10th-14th, 2023 

This week is all about portraiture. Students will learn the basics of face proportions and shading, and then practise drawing portraits of their classmates. We will also explore different techniques and types of paints, including tempera, watercolours and acrylics, to create colourful portraits inspired by famous artists!

Week 3: Street Dreams: A Graffiti Odyssey – July 17th-21st, 2023 

Students will learn about the exciting world of street and public art and study the works of famous street artists. We will learn how and why artists create large-scale murals and then create our own stencils and markers to create detailed designs on a collaborative mural in the studio. Students will also create their own street-art or public pieces and respectively display them around the camp area giving the surrounding space an inspiring and colourful urban vibe.

Week 4: Animate Your World: A Claymation Celebration – July 24th-28th, 2023

Students this week will delve into the world of animation. Students will learn about character design and storyboarding and learn the basics of animation techniques like cel animation and stop-motion, and then use clay to create their own short animated films. This week is sure to be exciting!

Week 5: Imaginary Realms: A Fantasy Art Festival – July 31st-August 4th, 2023

The fifth week of art camp was all about imagination and fantasy. Students learned how to create mythical creatures and enchanted landscapes using a variety of mediums, including pencil, ink, and coloured pencils. They also learned about world-building and story-telling, and used these skills to create original fantasy worlds filled with incredible creatures and adventures. The week ended with a fantasy art show, showcasing the students’ amazing works of imagination.

Week 6: Pop Goes Art: A Celebration of Colour and Culture – August 8th-11th, 2023 – Short Week

In this camp, students will learn about the vibrant world of Pop Art. They will study the works of famous pop artists like Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, and others to learn how to create bold, graphic images using bright colours and strong lines. Campers will also learn how to incorporate text and images into their pop art pieces, and the week will end with a pop art show, showcasing the students’ creative takes on this iconic art movement.

Week 7: Collage Crazy: A Textural Trek Through Art – August 14th-18th, 2023

This camp week is all about the Art of collage! Students will use a variety of materials, including paper, fabric, and found objects, to create unique and textured collages. They will learn about composition and colour theory, and use these skills to create eye-catching, layered, representational and abstract works of art! It will be a super fun week and inspiring to see all of the students’ incredible and inventive works!

Week 8: Sculpting the Future: A 3-D Art Expedition – August 21st-25th, 2023 

Students this week will enter the exciting world of sculpture. They will study the works of famous sculptors, and learn how to use materials like clay, metal, and wood to create three-dimensional artworks. They will also learn about different types of sculptures, such as relief and installations, and create a final project that will be a culmination of these ideas and concepts explored throughout the week of camp!
