Self-Directed Residencies

This residency offers a dedicated space for artists and creatives seeking uninterrupted time to focus on their work in a peaceful, distraction-free setting.

This residency is ideal for artists who require a quiet environment to develop a body of work, conduct research, meet a deadline, or simply immerse themselves in creative exploration. Whether you need a temporary workspace or an escape from the pace of urban life, this residency provides the solitude and inspiration necessary for meaningful artistic progress.

As a self-directed residency, there is no expectation for a public presentation, allowing artists to work freely and at their own pace. Residents are responsible for bringing their own supplies, food and equipment to best support their individual practice. (Easels available for use on-site).

Residency Structure

Artists may choose from three flexible durations, allowing for short, focused intensives or extended deep dives into their work:

• Weekend Residency (3 Days) – Friday to Sunday
• Weekday Residency (5 Days) – Monday to Friday
• Week-long Residency (7 Days) – Monday to Sunday (Includes a Masterclass (optional) and a Visiting Artist Talk – *Once application is approved, you will be sent Masterclass options to choose from if interested)

This residency is designed for independent, self-directed practice, fostering an immersive experience where artists can push the boundaries of their work and develop their skills in an environment that nurtures focus, clarity, and inspiration.

A Private Haven for Creativity

Each artist is provided with a private studio space and an independent one-bedroom studio apartment equipped with a private living space, private kitchenette and private bathroom, offering both comfort and functionality. 

The studio space features a quaint working space with expansive windows, allowing natural light to pour in throughout the day ~ a setting that enhances both creative flow and deep work.

At night, retreat to your modest yet cozy living space, where the stillness of the countryside allows for rest and quiet contemplation. Here, the world slows down, giving you the space to think, create, and be fully present with your work.

(*Please note, the studio space has a small window of time during the week, where it is unavailable for use. Wednesday & Thursday evenings 4-9pm for art classes that are running. Artist Residents are welcome to sit in/observe classes in progress).

Surrounded by Nature & Creative Solitude

The residency is set amidst the rolling landscapes of Niagara’s countryside, offering direct access to Rockway Conservation Area and Short Hills Provincial Park. These nearby trails provide a perfect retreat into nature ~ winding paths through dense forests, quiet waterfalls, and sweeping meadows invite moments of reflection, while the vast open skies offer breathtaking sunrises and golden-hour light to inspire new artistic visions.

This is a space for those who seek more than just a studio ~ it is a retreat, an escape, and a catalyst for deep creative contemplation.

Grocery stores/gas stations and other amenities are also not too far away. 

Residency Details & Booking

• Seasonal Availability:
  • Fall/Winter: September 1 – March 31
  • Spring: April 1 – June 30 (early booking recommended for peak season)
• Check-in: Between 2 PM – 3 PM on arrival day
• Check-out: Between 11 AM – 12 PM on departure day
• Security: Private Living Space and Artist Studio have individual locking doors, and are secured overnight.
• Resident Cat On-Site: No additional pets are permitted.
• Fees: 

Weekend Residency (3 Days): $222 CAD

Weekday Residency (5 Days): $333 CAD

Week-long Residency (7 Days): $444 CAD

  • A 50% deposit secures your spot, with the balance due upon arrival.
  • Once booked, artists receive a comprehensive welcome package with travel details, studio guidelines, and insights for making the most of their residency.
